Jesús Legarrea celebrates his winning putt

Ballyliffin's Brendan McCarroll had three eagles in a closing 69 to finish tied 20th in the Alps de las Castillas in Spain.

The former East of Ireland champion, who is now 12th in the money list after pickin up €714 for his efforts, ended the week on 11 under par at Golf Valdeluz near Guadalajara, nine strokes behind Spain's Jesus Legarrea.

McCarroll opened with an eagle three at the first, bogeyed the second and double bogeyed the par-five fourth to go one over before a birdie at the seventh saw him turn in level par.

He then eagled the 340-yard, par-four 10th, birdied the 11th and eagled the par-five 14th to go five under only to bogey the 15th and 18th.

Legarrea, who shot 61 on Friday to take a two-shot lead into the final round, holed a six and a half footer for birdie at the 18th to seal a dramatic one-shot win from Stefano Pitoni of Italy on 20 under and earn €6,960.
