LYTHAM ST. ANNES, England (Sept. 12) -- Great Britain and Ireland leads the USA, 7-5, after the first day of the 45th Walker Cup Match at Royal Lytham & St. Annes Golf Club, writes the USGA.

It's not easy to outstrip the likes of Joe Carr, Jimmy Bruen, Cecil Ewing or Max McCready but a quintet of Irish amateur stars pulled it off today when they were named by the R&A in the Great Britain and Ireland team to face the USA in the 2015 Walker Cup match at Royal Lytham & St Annes from September 12-13.

Great Britain and Ireland captain Nigel Edwards will be in the US when the Walker Cup team is officially announced on August 24.

England's Jimmy Mullen left the rest for dead in the Welsh Open Strokeplay at Ashburnham, closing with rounds of 70 and 69 to win by nine shots on 15 under par.

Castle’s Daniel Holland has been threatening to do big things since he won the Mullingar Scratch Trophy two years ago.
