European Seniors Tour — Des Smyth is six shots behind Argentina's Cesar Monasterio ahead of the final round of the SSE Scottish Senior Open at a windswept Fairmont St Andrews.

As Smyth battled windy conditions, carding a one over 73 to share 13th spot on one-under, Argentinian rookie Monasterio retained his three-shot lead on seven under par with a 76.

Ian Woonam used every ounce of his vast experience to move within three shots of Monasterio, who shot a 61 on Friday, carding a 72 to share second spot with Spaniard Pedro Linhart (72) and English rookie Mark Davis (74) on four under.

With winds gusting over 20 miles per hour for most of the day, conditions were the polar opposite of those seen in the first round, when an almost flat calm led to some excellent scores – not least from Monasterio, who equalled the lowest round in Senior Tour history with his 11 under par 61.

Philip Walton (75) is tied 29th on three over with Ronan Rafferty (77) tied 41st on five over Denis O'Sullivan (78) 58th on nine over.
