Whitson best of the Irish in Sydney

Reeve Whitson Mourne’s Reeve Whitson fired a third round 68 to trail Germany’s Marcel Schneider by 10 shots entering the final round of the Lake Macquarie Amateur Championship in Australia.

The Ulster player finished the day on 211 as Schneider, winner of last week’s Australian Amateur Open, hit a 67 to lead by a shot from home player Daniel Nisbet on 201 at Belmont Golf Club near Sydney. Scores

Lucan’s Richard O’Donovan carded a third round 74 for 215 with Ballymena’s Dermot McIlroy a shot futher back after a 74.
