The West of Ireland Championship will not be played on its traditional Easter date due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A Emergency General Meeting could be on the cards at Galway Golf Club after a leading member said he was “mortified” by the recent decision by Council to inform Golf Ireland that the club did not wish to host this summer’s Irish Amateur Open.

Golf Ireland will soon begin searching for a new venue for this year’s Irish Amateur Open Championship after Galway Golf Club voted on Monday to turn down its chance to host the event from August 12-15.

Golf Ireland will soon finalise the 2021 fixture list but the main events are now set in stone with the Irish Men’s Amateur Close set for Tullamore from May 8-12 and the Irish Women’s Amateur Close scheduled for the Old Course at Ballybunion from June 17-20.
