Amateur Sara Byrne is looking to build on her brilliant debut in last week’s Vasteras Open by Elite Hotels when she plays in her second professional tournament this week.

The Douglas star, who recently claimed her second AIG Irish Women's Amateur Close Championship was impressive at Fullero GolfKlubb where she carded rounds of 71, 72 and 72 to finish tied sixth on one-under par with Sweden’s Elin Kumlin and Australia’s Kelsey Bennett.

She has a second LET Access Tour invitation this week for the Capio Ogon Trophy, where she is joined by international teammate Anna Foster and she’ can’t wait to get started after thoroughly enjoying her first professional start.

“I feel amazing,” Byrne said. “Obviously coming into this event, I didn’t know what to expect so to get into the top 10 is great, I’m over the moon as I just came here for the experience."

Byrne plays for the Miami Hurricanes in the US and has used this opportunity to find out more about life as a professional golfer.

“I’ve got loads of information,” she admitted, “I’ve asked everyone a million different questions, so it was a really great week.

“I’ve had my dad on the bag this week, we always have fun out there, that’s what we want to do, go out there and perform but most importantly just go out there and have some fun.”

Byrne has also secured an invitation into the LET’s €400,000 KPMG Women’s Irish Open at Dromoland Castle from August 31 to September 3, but insists playing in the LETAS events has been great preparation.

“This has made me want to become a professional, 100 percent!

“I knew coming into this week that that’s what I want to do, and this has pushed me further because I know that even though I made a few mistakes out there, I now know what I need to work on.

“This has given me more motivation going forward and I hope to do better at The Capio Ogon Trophy.”

The Capio Ogon Trophy will see a field of 132 players, representing 25 countries teeing it up with Byrne starting Tuesday at 8:55am local time alongside Slovenia’s Katja Pogacar who came third last week and Morocco’s Lina Belmati.
