Mew four clear at Belvoir Park

England’s Alan Mew is on course for a wire to wire win in the Irish Seniors Amateur Open at Belvoir Park.

He added a two-over 73 to his opening 65 to lead by four strokes on five-under par from Welshman Nigel Evans, who also shot 73 on Friday.

England’s Trevor Foster and Wales’ Richard Jones are third on one-over with Westport’s Liam Halpin and Royal Curragh’s Alan Egan the leading home players, tied for fifth on two-over.

Just four players broke par in the second round and an exciting finale lies in prospect with Evans leading the 60-64 age bracket, Mew the 12-shot leader among the 65-69 year olds and Welshman Glynn Rhys set to claim the 70-75s ahead of Cork’s Peter Cowley.
