Leona Maguire got her bid for a third win this season off to a promising start in Zimmer Biomet Championship in Alabama.

She birdied three of her last seven holes to post a two-under 70 that left her tied for 11th, six strokes behind Spain's Nuria Iturrios, who carded six birdies and an eagle three in a superb, bogey-free, eight-under 64 on the Lake Course at RTJ  Grand National in Auburn.

“Lake Course played tough, but pleased with five birdies and a two-under par on day one!,” Leona tweeted. “Hope to keep it going tomorrow.”

England’s Meghan MacLaren and French amateur Pauline Roussin-Bouchard hold a one-shot lead after the first round of the Jabra Ladies Open, played in beautiful, warm and sunny conditions at Evian Resort Golf Club.

The pair fired matching three-under-par 68s in the dual ranking event between the Ladies European Tour and its developmental tour, the LET Access Series. The tournament doubles as a qualifier for the Evian Championship, with two spots available for the fourth women’s major of the 2019 season.

Lisa Maguire is tied 129th after an 84. Scores
