Ireland will face England in the semi-finals of both the European Senior Men's and European Ladies' Team Championships on Friday.

In the men's event at PGA Sweden National, Ireland beat hosts Sweden 3-2 with Garth McGimpsey claiming a crucial 4 and 3 win over Mariusz Eriksson in the anchor singles.

Eamonn Haugh and John Mitchell won their foursomes match 5 and 4 and while Jom Carvill made it 2-0 with a 4 and 3 singles win over Patrik Eriksson, Adrian Morrow and Karl Bornemann both lost, leaving McGimpsey to clinch Ireland's place in the last four.

Scotland beat Norway 4-1 and will face Denmark in the other semi-final following their 4-1 win over Spain.

In the European European Senior Ladies' Team Championship in Slovakia, defending champions Ireland beat Belgium 4-1 by claiming the first three matches.

Following a foursomes win for Carol Wickham and Sheena McElroy, singles wins from Laura Webb and Catherine Reilly made it 3-0 and the other two matches were called in.

Ireland now take on England, who beat Spain 4-1 with the winners to meet France (3-2 winners over Spain) or Germany (3-2 winners over Sweden) in Saturday's final.
