Maria Dunne won’t forget 2016 in a hurry, especially if she rounds off a dream year with victory in the USHA 100th All India Ladies Amateur Golf Championship in Delhi.

The Skerries talent must already pinching herself after clinching a Curtis Cup call up and then helping Great Britain and Ireland to a memorable win over the USA at Dun Laoghaire in June.

But after cruising into the semi-finals at Delhi Golf Club, she can send GB&I skipper Elaine Farquharson-Black a timely reminder that she’s still very much a contender for a place in the eight-strong Vagliano Trophy line up ahead of next week’s 10-woman squad session at The Belfry.

Having beaten Thailand’s Siripatsorn Patchana 2 and 1 in the first round, Dunne overcame Malaysia’s Geraldine Wong by the same margin in the second round on Friday morning, then beat Sifat Alag of India one up in the afternoon quarter-finals to set up a semi-final showdown with top qualifier Nur Durriyah Damian on Saturday.
