Dun Laoghaire's Robert Abernethy — playing off a handicap of eight — fired a sensational, one-under par 70 to cruise to an emphatic three-shot victory in the Leinster Boys Under 15 Close Championship at Ashbourne Golf Club.

Abernethy start strongly with three birdies in the first four holes and despite a double bogey on fifth, he covered the remaining 13 holes in level par to win by three strokes from Forrest Little's James Temple.

Third prize (on a countback) went to Milltown's Charlie Denvir with two nines of  37 for a three over 74. The Under 14 Category Prize was won by Sean Dowling (Beaverstown) with a round of 74 with the Under 13 prize going to Elm Park's Robert Galligan, who shot 77.

Rosslare's Brendan Rossiter had a hole in one with a seven-iron on the 16th hole.
