Lenehan and McNamara struggle in French Amateur

Chantilly

Portmarnock's Geoff Lenehan and Headfort's Rory McNamara are struggling after the opening round of the French International Amateur Open — Le Coupe Murat — at Chantilly near Paris.

Lenehan birdied the sixth and ninth to go out in two under but came home in 44 with an triple bogey eight at the last to card an eight-over par 79 that left him 88th in the 98-man field.

It was an even tougher day at the office for McNamara, who went out in two over but made six bogeys and a double bogey five on the back nine to card a 10 over 81 for 92nd spot.
