O'Rourke and Grant smash Strandhill course records

Ian O’Rourke shot an eight under 62 to set a new course record at StrandhillUCC’s Ian O’Rourke and Ulster’s Paula Grant smashed the respective men’s and women’s course records in the second event of the 2012-2013 Intervarsity Series at Strandhill.  

O’Rouke shot a dazzling, eight-under-par 62 to coast to a five-shot win from NUIM’s Kieran Lynch, who came home in 32 for a 67.

Alan Lowry (NUIM) and Mark Morrissey (IT Sligo) also broke par in perfect conditions, shooting 68 and 69 respectively.  

In the ladies event, Grant carded a two-under 70, a new ladies course record to also cruise to a five-shot victory over Amy Farrell (DCU) and Sinead Sexton (NUIM).

According to the GUI, both events were played with full competition play conditions from the Championship tees on a fantastically prepared Strandhill links.
