Donegal attracts strong fields for Magee 1866 and Britton Insurance Scratch Cups

Strong fields will tee it up on Donegal Golf Club’s Murvagh links in the Magee 1866 Senior Scratch Cup and Britton Insurance Junior Scratch Cup this Saturday.
The association between Magee 1866, the Temple family and Donegal Golf Club dates to the birth of the golf club in 1959.
The fashion giants are fantastic supporters of the club and after rebooting the senior scratch cup in 2022, Magee 1866 and the Temple family have continued their sponsorship into 2025
The Magee Scratch Cup is one of the most unique and interesting trophies in the club’s cabinet and Portmarnock's Annraoi Collins will defend his title on a course that’s being redesigned by former Ryder Cup winning captain Paul McGinley.
“Magee 1866 are honoured to sponsor the 2025 Scratch Cup at Donegal Golf Club again this year,” said Rosy and Patrick Temple, CEO Magee 1866 & Magee Weaving
“We are excited to welcome esteemed golfers from across the country to this prestigious event. Our longstanding connection with the Donegal Golf Club holds special significance as our late grandparents, Maureen and Howard Temple, were dedicated supporters of the club’s growth and development through the decades.
“Marueen was also an avid golfer and greatly enjoyed being involved in the club. We are delighted to continue our close association with the club and look forward to the event."
Running alongside the Magee 1866 Scratch Cup, Britton Insurance return as the title sponsor of the Junior Scratch Cup which will be played over 27 holes.
The late Mr. Pat Britton was a big champion of Junior Scratch Cups, and it was only fitting that a new trophy was commissioned in his honour.
The inaugural winner of the Pat Britton Memorial Cup was David Leck from Shandon Park, who took the title by the narrowest of margins, beating both Martin Cassidy and Sean Clancy by 1 shot over 27 holes.
The Britton Insurance Scratch Cup will be a great showcase of emerging golfing talent. Last years Champion Alan Moran from Tuam GC, lifted the trophy after another thrilling contest.
“This sponsorship reflects a long-standing family connection to the club and a shared commitment to supporting local sport.
“We’re proud to continue our support for an event that means so much to us,” said Nikola Britton of Britton Insurance.
“The Junior Scratch Cup is a fantastic reflection of the club’s progress, and we’re excited to be part of its continued success.”
