Second successive top four for Sugrue; Foster shines again

Mallow‘s James Sugrue claimed his second top-four in a row in the Motocaddy Masters at St Mellion.
A level par 72 left the former Amateur Championship winner (28) solo fourth on four-under, three behind Nicholas Infanti, earning him €2,857 and a move to fifth in the Order of Merit.
St Mellion’s Tyler Hogarty (72) and the Island’s Paul McBride (68) tied for 11th on level par with Niall Kearney (74) 35th on five-over and John-Ross Galbraith (79) 53rd on 10-over.
LPGA
Leona Maguire faces a battle to make the cut ahead of next week’s US Women’s Open at Erin Hills after opening with a three-over 75 in the Mexico Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba.
The Co Cavan star (29) had 31 putts after missing seven greens in regulation and trailed Japan’s Chisato Iwai, Korea’s Jenny Shin and Filipina Bianca Pagdanganan by seven shots at Playa del Carmen.

It was a better day for the Irish in the LET’s Jabra Ladies Open at Evian Resort, where Elm Park’s Anna Foster was tied 12th, five shots behind Sweden’s Moa Folke, after a two-under 69.
Annabel Wilson was joint 17th after a 70, while Canice Screene was 36th after a 72, and Lauren Walsh 53rd after a 73.
Meanwhile, Olivia Mehaffey (71-77) was projected to miss the cut in the weather-delayed Allegria Stegersbach Ladies Open on the LET Access Series in Austria.
DP World Tour
In Belgium, Conor Purcell made three birdies in a one-under 70 to share 45th after round one of the DP World Tour’s Soudal Open in Antwerp.
Purcell was just five shots behind Canada’s Aaron Cockerill, Spain’s Angel Ayora and the Netherlands’ Joost Luiten at Rinkven International.
Meanwhile, Florida rookie John Pak fired an eagle two and five birdies in a bogey-free, seven-under 63 to claim the early lead in the PGA Tour’s Charles Schwab Championship at Colonial Country Club.
Senior PGA
Pádraig Harrington took advantage of his power at the Senior PGA Championship and birdied three of four par-fives en route to a one-under 71 at Congressional Country Club in Maryland.
The Dubliner (53) was just three shots behind South Africa’s Keith Horne, who carded a 68 to lead by one stroke from countrymen Ernie Els and Darren Fichardt, American Mario Tiziani and England’s Simon Khan after the morning wave.
HotelPlanner Tour
Galway’s Liam Nolan, meanwhile, birdied two of his last three holes and carded a three-under 69 to trail Scotland’s Calum Fyfe by five shots in the HotelPlanner Tour’s Danish Golf Challenge at Bogense.
He was tied for 10th with Daniel Mulligan, the next best of the Irish, two under through 17 holes, thanks to two eagle threes when play was suspended.
Max Kennedy was two-over (14 holes), while Alex Maguire and Mark Power shot 75 and Dermot McElroy a 76.
Alps Tour
At the Aps Tour’s Lacanau Alps Open in France, Hugh Foley made an eagle and four birdies in a rollercoaster one-under 71 at UGolf Lacanau.
Two-over after two holes, he made three birdies and an eagle three at the 18th to turn in three under, picked up another shot at the sixth to get to four under, but then bogeyed the last three to end the day tied for 39th.
He was just four shots behind Italy’s Federico Livio and the French pair Nicolas Aparicio and Quentin Debove
Ronan Mullarney was 55th after a 72 with Robert Moran T72 after a 73, and John Murphy and Michael Young T89 after 74s,
