Murphy wins Boyle Sports Lee Valley Scratch Cup

Douglas’ Jack Murphy underlined his status as a player to watch when he cruised to a four-stroke win in the Boyle Sports Lee Valley Scratch Cup.

Murphy (pictured above by Niall O’Shea) opened with a 69 to share the first round lead with club mate James Walsh before following it with another 69 to lead by four shots from Walsh and Castletroy’s Andrew McCormack after 36 holes.

He then closed with a two-over 74 to win by four shots on four-under 212 from Kevin LeBlanc and McCormack with Fota Island’s David Howard and Dundalk’s Caolan Rafferty a shot further back.

Murphy’s talent has been spotted further afield and he will head for the University of Washington in August.
