Jet-lagged Lowry hits Route 66 in Singapore and then confesses in Green Room

Shane Lowry overcame searing heat and jet lag and scorched to a brilliant six-under 66 to lurk just five shots off the lead heading into the final round of the Porsche Singapore Classic.

The Offaly man bounced back from his second round 73 by reeling off an eagle and five birdies before dropping his only shot of the day at the last.

"Yeah, it was nice," said Lowry, who is tied for 13th in eighth-under, five behind Australia's David Micheluzzi.

"I played really good today. The longest putt I holed I think was about six or seven feet. So you know shooting 66 that's pretty good.

"Obviously, I'd like to have holed more. I think it could have been better. But I've put myself back up towards the top of the leaderboard.

"I just hope the leaders don't run away too much today and i can get out and maybe shoot a low front nine tomorrow and give myself a bit of a chance."

Lowry started on the back nine and sandwiched a hole-out eagle three from 95 yards at the 14th between birdies at the 13th and 15th before picking up another birdie at the 18th to turn in 32.

He picked up further shots at the third and fifth but dropped his only shot of the day at the ninth. "I holed a wedge shot on 14 (for eagle) and then I almost holed my shot on the next as well and give myself a few great chances," Lowry said.

"And, you know, I just played really nice golf. I hit it where I was supposed to.

"Very disappointed to bogey the last to be honest, but you know, just that's golf and you move on and we'll get after it tomorrow."

Micheluzzi (27) also shot 66 to lead by a shot on 13-under from England's Sam Bairstow and overnight co-leader Andy Sullivan.

Sullivan made four birdies in his first eight holes but then double bogeyed the ninth and tenth and bogeyed the 11th before making four birdies in his last seven holes to shoot 69 to Bairstow's 68.

India's Shubhankar Sharma is alone in third, just two behind on 11-under with LIV Golf's Paul Casey in a four-way tie for fourth on 10-under after a 68.

Lowry sees the sweltering Singapore weather as his biggest challenge on Sunday.

"Try to stay hydrated and stand in the shade as much as you can," he said of his thoughts on his final competitive round before the Masters.

"It's pretty hot out there. So you're picking your targets, hitting good shots and hopefully getting some good results."

Lowry later appeared in the Green Room on Sky Sports - a kind of confessional where players sit in an enclosed pod and answer questions about their day.

After his long-haul trip from Florida on Monday, tiredness was a theme.

Q: Hi Shane, how are you doing today?

SL: I am tired and sweaty. Hot.  Haven't had much sleep.

Q: How was it out there?

SL: Hard to complain about a 66 but when the longest put your hole is about six or seven feet, it could be a lot better. But it is what it is. I just hope I can do better tomorrow.

Q: You've traveled quite a way this week. How have you been handling the transition?

SL: I've been awake at about 3am, probably 3 or 4am every morning, getting to bed about 10 o'clock trying to go to bed as late as I can, so I'll sleep but that hasn't been working. So I'm very sleep deprived this week. But it was my decision to come here so I can't really blame anyone but myself.

Q: What's a highlight and a low light of the round today?

SL: Highlight on my round. I holes a wedge shot today from I think it was 90-ish yards,  95 yards and then my lowlight, there weren't many lowlights actually which was nice, was probably my bogey at the last. If you had got me this time yesterday I would have been in worse form than this. So I'm pretty happy with my day's work.

Q: Is there anything else you want to get off your chest today?

I feel like the referees are following me all week (laughs). Probably shouldn't be saying this.  I feel like I've been on the clock a lot this week, which is not me. I obviously don't think it's me. We've been in a few bad spots. But l I've been on the clock a lot, which is not what I'm used to.

Q: Well, thanks for stopping by and you're welcome back anytime.

SL: Thank you.  I will... after good days only (laughing).
