West of Ireland field completed after marathon playoff

And they're off. Nine players head down the first at County Sligo in the Qualifier playoff for four spots.

It took 25 holes - an 18-hole qualifier and seven extra holes — to decide the 20 names who join the exempt players in the 138 strong starting line up for the Radisson Blu sponsored West of Ireland Championship at County Sligo tomorrow.

Two over 73s for Peter Cummins, Stephen Brady, Nathan McCann and Allan Hill; 74s for Kevin Barry, Mark McKenna, Robert Abernethy; 75s for Alan Gaynor, Alan Considine and Andrew Dillon and 76s for Bob Loftus, Garth McManus, David McAleenon, Andrew Mulhall and Aaron Ryan earned them automatic berths.

Another 10 players finished on 77 and nine played off for four spots after Jamie Knipe, believing he had no chance of qualifying, headed home early and did not take part.

In the end, the four spots went to Eoin Murphy (Dundalk), Jordan Logue (Hilton Templepatrick), Thomas Neenan (Lahinch) and John Hadnett (Castletroy).
