Ballybunion's John Daniel Guiney will be one of 51 players battling for three spots in the US Open at Oakmont when he tees it up in Monday's Sectional Qualifying event at Lakeside Country Club in Texas
The 30 year old Kerryman, who tried for his European Tour card three years ago, joins the likes of up and coming star Beau Hossler, 21, in a brave bid to make it to Oakmont in Pittsburgh for the second major of the year from June 16-19.
Players will play 36 holes at 10 sites across the US with Guiney paired Edward Loar and amateur Levi Valdez at the Houston venue.
