Whitehead's John Ross Galbraith is just four shots off the lead after opening with a two under par 70 in the Argentinian Amateur Open at Estancias Golf Club in Buenos Aires.

Last year's Irish Close runner up, he's tied for eighth place behind Cordoba native Andrés Schonbaum, who made six birdies in an immaculate 66 to lead by one from the South African Kyle McLatchie and Sweden's Martin Eriksson.

Galbraith had an eagle, four birdies and two bogeys on his card but it was a day to forget for Irish Close champion Alex Gleeson, who shot a 14 over 86.

Gleeson made one birdie, one bogey, three double bogeys and two quadruple bogeys to finish the day ranked 75th in the 79 man field.
