Whatever about Irish hopes of winning the US Open at Chambers Bay, there will be a Corkman on site in Washington state. Former Walker Cup player Eoghan O'Connell from Killarney will be part of the FOX Sports' commentary team.

According to a press release , those joining FOX Sports for varied roles across the USGA’s slate of championship events include Shane Bacon, Mark Brooks, Robert Damron, Jay Delsing, Debbie Doniger, Natalie Gulbis, Gil Hanse, Buddy Marucci, Scott McCarron, Ned Michaels, Joe Ogilvie, Morgan Pressel, EA Tischler, Tom Weiskopf and O'Connell:

"O’Connell, a USGA championship veteran who played in the 1989 Walker Cup (representing Great Britain and Ireland) and earned medalist honours at the U.S. Amateur the same year, serves as an on-course reporter for the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship on television, as well as an announcer at holes No. 12 and 15 during the U.S. Open."

 

After signing a $1.2 billion deal to become the broadcast partner of the United States Golf Association, will air nearly 115 hours of live coverage from eight 2015 USGA championships, including the U.S. Open, U.S. Women’s Open and U.S. Senior Open.

Fox Sports and the USGA are in the first year of an agreement which runs through 2026. The partnership brings major championship golf for the first time ever to the Fox broadcast network and Fox Sports 1.

“This is an exciting time as the USGA begins its long-term partnership with Fox Sports,” said USGA President Thomas J. O’Toole Jr. “Our broadcast partner has made a tremendous commitment and is dedicated to enhancing our national championships. Both players and fans will benefit from the expanded coverage.”

Fox, Fox Sports 1 and Fox Deportes will combine to air more than 32 hours of live coverage from all four rounds of the 2015 U.S. Open. Joe Buck and World Golf Hall of Fame member Greg Norman are the lead announcers for Fox Sports’ broadcast. Chambers Bay, in University Place, Wash., will host the first U.S. Open held in the Pacific Northwest.
