Ballymena's Dermot McElroy finally turned his world class talent into the major championship victory he deserved in the West of Ireland Amateur Open at Easter. Now he's fancied to go all the way in this weekend's McGinley Motors sponsored Rosapenna Senior Scratch Cup for the second time in the space of four years.

The Irish international won the 54-hole strokeplay event by four shots in 2012 and he's the bookies' favourite again this year ahead Warrenpoint's Colm Campbell, the East of Ireland champion, and defending champion Eddie McCormack

The leading 33 players after the first two rounds on the Sandy Hills and Old Links ( (ties will be decided by second round scores) will qualify for Sunday's final round of the Sandy Hills layout.

In the even of a tie after 54 holes there will be a sudden-death play-off on the Sandy Hills  Links, playing the first and 18th until there is a winner.

Prizes will go to the 10 best gross scores after 54 holes. Ties will be broken on third round cards.
