Athy's Jonathan Kelly won the opening outing of the Hilary Golf Society's 63rd season at a cold and calm Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links.
The four handicapper came home in two under par for a super 69 to edge out Royal Dublin one-handicapper Gary McGrane on the break of a tie.
Munster Interprovincial Geoff Lenehan from Portmarnock Golf Club was the gross winner with a fine 69.
Local man Robert Neville was joined by Martin Kelly (Forrest Little), Greg Cooke (St. Annes) and Terry Lilly (Slade Valley) in posting a winning team score of 59.
