You may never get the chance to win ‘the West’ or the Irish Amateur Close but you can still find out what it feels like to lift a big matchplay title.

The inaugural Irish Open Matchplay Championship takes place in 2014 with the Grand Finals scheduled for the O’Meara Course at Carton House where Setanta Sports will be on the spot to record the winners for posterity.

According to Andrew Hickey, the man behind the idea, entries are now open for the singles and the pairs events with a limited of number of places available in each county.

You can choose to do battle as an individual in the singles competition or share the pressure with a partner in the pairs event. Or you can enter both competitions but only in your home county.

Entries will be taken from all 32 counties, where you will do battle, throughout the summer months and eventually an individual/pair will be crowned county champion/champions.

Success in your County Final guarantees your place at the Grand Finals, which will be played over two days at Carton House’s O’Meara Course next year.
