Oliver hungry for more at Q-School
Carrickfergus’ Ross Oliver fired a three-under par 69 to move into the qualifying places at the halfway stage of the European Tour School’s First Qualifying Stage Section B qualifier at Wychwood Park.
The top 25 and ties progress to December’s Second Sage from the Cheshire venue and Europro Tour regular Oliver, 24, is tied for 23rd on the current one-over par target score, nine strokes behind leader Steve Uzzell.
Damian Mooney is the next best of the six Irishman in action at the English venue, four shots outside the qualifying places after a 77 with amateur Matt McAlpin (77) a shot further back.
It looks like a long way back now for amateur Andrew Hogan (78), the Island’s David Rawluk (78) and Ulsterman Chris Hughes (80) as they finished the day on 12 over par.
At Fleesensee in Germany, former footballer Stephen Grant remains the leading Irishman but while his level par 72 left him on two under, he slipped a shot outside the top 21 and ties who will progress to the Second Stage.
The mark is currently three under par 141, which leaves Newlands’ Cian Curley six shots adrift after a 75 with Shane Franklin another shot back after a 76.
