Royal Dublin’s Neil O’Briain racked up a double bogey seven at the last to fall into a five-way share of the lead after the first round of the Audi Cork Irish Masters at the Fota Island Resort.

The Dubliner’s four under par 68 left him tied with Engand’s Jamie Abbott and Ian Ridgway, South African  Darryn Lloyd and Scotland’s Shaun McAllister.

Adare’s Graeme Dunlea is a shot further back alongside Paul Maddy and Adam Hodkinson after a 69 with  Danny Sugrue, Niall Turner and Paul O’Hanlon tied for ninth thanks to two under 70’s.

Former European Tour regular David Higgins and Mallow’s Mervyn Owens were the only other Irish players to break par with one under 71’s.
