Irish interest in the British Ladies’ Open Amateur Championship ended this morning when local hope Stephanie Meadow lost in the third round at Royal Portrush.

The US based starlet went down by 4 and 3 to South Africa Kim Williams after a slow start saw her fall two down after three holes before hitting back.

However, Williams eventually won the 11th and the 13th with pars to go four up with five to play and halves at the next two finished the match.

Cavan twins Lisa and Leona Maguire and Royal County Down’s Daniell McVeigh all lost in the first round.
