Irish Open call by Harrington

Padraig Harrington wants a full house for his Irish Open title defence at Adare Manor from May 15-18.

The Dubliner reckons that fan support was the key to his ending a 25-year wait for a home winner last year.

And with organisers offering a 20 percent ticket discount until the end of March, Harrington is right behind the move.

He said: "The Irish fans were instrumental in my victory at Adare Manor last year.

"I felt a real sense of will and support from all of the spectators during that play-off, and they definitely played a part in helping me over the finish line.

"The more home fans we can get to come along and support the Irish players can only add to the flavour of the tournament, so it’s great news that the fans have a chance to buy tickets at these promotional rates."

The promotion offers fans a 20 per cent discount with daily tickets are reduced from €25 to €20 and season tickets slashed from €75 to €60.

Junior fans accompanied by adults and Senior Citizens will be allowed to access the 2008 Irish Open free of charge throughout the tournament week .

Harrington went on to follow his Irish Open win with victory in the Open at Carnoustie.

And while slipped one spot to 11th in the world following his 14th place finish in the Ballantine's Championship, he's feeling good about his game

He said: "It was good all‑around. I was trying some new irons and things like that but it was very worthwhile.

"Obviously I would have liked to have done a little better but 24 under par was a bit out of range."

He will have this week off before counting down to the Masters with appearances in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and the Shell Houston Open.
