Amateur ace Claire Coughlan remained on course to grab her Ladies European Tour card in Spain.

The Curtis Cup star, 26, carded a level par 72 in the Qualifying School finals to move up from 10th to seventh at the halfway stage of the 72-hole test at La Cala.

Coughlan is just four shots behind leader Hanna-Leena Salonen of Finland on one under par and well place to earn one of 25 full tour cards for next season.

But it looks like an uphill battle for Beaverstown's Martina Gillen and former Irish strokeplay champion Hazel Kavanagh.

Amateur Gillen got back to level par for the tournament after 10 holes but then dropped seven shots in the last seven holes on her way to a 77.

At seven over par, she is just inside the top 50 and ties who will make the 54-hole cut tonight but Kavanagh is one stroke outside that mark after a 75.

The top 25 after four rounds earn full playing rights for 2007 with the remainder getting conditional status.

On the European Seniors Tour, Ulsterman Michael Wolseley grabbed a conditional card when he finished tied 15th in the qualifying school finals in Portugal.

Aussie David Merriman defeated former European Tour player Emilio Rodriguez of Spain in a play-off for top spot.
