But he wasn’t finished yet. In the Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor he secured the winning point for Europe:

Then he won the Andalucia Valderrama Masters:

And for an encore he took down Tiger Woods in sudden death to win the Chevron World Challenge and finish the year ranked 6th in the world:

 

After all that, it’s easy to forget that Rory McIlroy won on the PGA Tour at the age of 20 by closing with a 62 to win the Quail Hollow Championship in Charlotte.

 

2009

Amateur Shane Lowry produced an incredible performance to win the 3 Irish Open at Baltray.

Rory McIlroy claimed his maiden European Tour title in the Dubai Desert Classic.

 

2008

Darren Clarke claimed his first European Tour title for five years at the 2008 BMW Asian Open in Shanghai.


Padraig Harrington returned to defend the title at Royal Birkdale in 2008 and retained the trophy thanks to an almost perfect performance on the back nine.

 

The 2008 US PGA was played at Oakland Hills with Harrington claiming his third major championship after a sublime putting performance over the closing holes.

 

Darren Clarke then went on to win the 2008 KLM Open from Paul McGinley

 

2007
