Lowry: Europe needs Ryder Cup players to back up "top 2" Rory and Rahm

SHANE LOWRY believes Europe has "the two best players in the world" in Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy but must use this week's Hero Cup to find more stars to win back the Ryder Cup in Rome.

Lowry was gutted Europe was thrashed 19-9 on his Ryder Cup debut and feels it's essential to find new talent to help the likes of Rahm and McIlroy, who stars in the new eight-episode Netflix documentary series "Full Swing" which premieres on February 15.

"Obviously, I want to be a part of Luke's team in Rome, and I feel like if this gives me any little bit of an edge in Rome if I'm there, I need to be here playing here," Lowry said of Europe's quest for fresh talent after a hot young US side crushed a transitional Europe in Wisconsin.

"The two best players in the world are European players at the minute, I feel with Jon and Rory. It's up to us, the rest of the lads to get our game to a level where we are good enough to win the Ryder Cup at the end of the year."

World number 29 Séamus Power heard from past captains Paul McGinley, Thomas Bjorn and Jose Maria Olazábal on arrival and admitted his ambition to make the team is "huge".

"You hear guys saying that all the stuff they have done around the world, their best memories are still Ryder Cup stuff," Power said. "Hearing that from guys that have done a lot more than me and I'll ever do in golf is amazing, and it makes you want to be part of it so much more."
