Ireland’s women beat Scotland 5.5-3.5 to salvage something positive from a disappointing day for the Irish in the consolidated Home Internationals at Woodhall Spa.

As a result of the revised and condensed schedule, the senior women and men, and the girls and boys are playing in the same teams for the first time in the traditional round-robin, match play format.

The Irish women’s team (scoring) started well, sharing the foursomes before singles wins for Julie McCarthy, Annabel Wilson, Beth Coulter and Lauren Walsh gave them a 5.5-3.5 win over Scotland as England beat Wales 8-1.

Wake Forest star Walsh, who will be named in the Curtis Cup team on Monday as the leading player on WAGR, has also made the field for the AIG Women’s Open at Carnoustie.

In the other matches, the combined senior men and women (scoring) lost 8-4 to England as Scotland beat Wales 7-5.

The girls and boys were soundly beaten 19.5-1.5 by England with a singles win for Elm Park’s Emma Fleming and a half from Roscommon’s Thomas Higgins the only highlights as Scotland beat Wales 13-8.
