The winning International team in 2020

Maynooth University’s Allan Hill and Wake Forest’s Lauren Walsh have been selected to represent the International team against the United States in the 2021 Arnold Palmer Cup at Rich Harvest Farms from June 11-13 — just a week before The Amateur Championship at Nairn.

A total of 48 players were named — 24 on each team — using different criteria this year because of the COVID-19 impact on the college golf calendar.

The US and International teams were decided with all committee and captain's selections. The previous teams were selected using a combination of points and picks.

The United States team is led by a group of returners from the 2020 Palmer Cup in Julia Johnson (Ole Miss), Gina Kim (Duke), Emilia Migliaccio (Wake Forest), and Latanna Stone (LSU). Coaches pick Migliaccio will become the first American to play in four Palmer Cups.

They will be joined by Ricky Castillo (Florida), Pierceson Coody (Texas), Allisen Corpuz (Southern California), Rachel Kuehn (Wake Forest), Brooke Matthews (Arkansas), and Trent Phillips (Georgia) who were all selected on March 3.

Newcomers to the American side include Sam Bennett (Texas A&M), Jacob Bridgeman (Clemson), Nick Gabrelcik (North Florida), Ryan Hall (South Carolina), Hanna Harrison (Dallas Baptist), Lauren Hartlage (Louisville), Irene Kim (Northwestern), Dylan Menante (Pepperdine), William Moll (Vanderbilt), Trevor Norby (Oklahoma Christian), Brad Reeves (Arizona), Erica Shepherd (Duke), Benjamin Shipp (NC State), and Kate Smith (Nebraska).

Norby and Smith are the first representatives from their respective schools.

The International team is represented by 14 countries, including seven returners from last year’s victorious team in Puwit Anupansuebsai (San Diego State/Thailand), Alex Fitzpatrick (Wake Forest/England), Yuxin Lin (Florida/China), Ingrid Lindblad (LSU/Sweden), David Puig (Arizona State/Spain), Paulne Roussin-Bouchard (South Carolina/France), and Emma Spitz (UCLA/Austria). Agathe Laisne (Texas/France) also brings past Palmer Cup experience as she was part of the winning International side at The Alotian Club in 2019.

They will be joined by a group of newcomers that includes Athenry Golf Club’s Hill and Castlewarden star Walsh as well as Eugenio Chacarra (Oklahoma State/Spain), Adrien Dumont de Chassart (Illinois/Belgium), Isabella Fierro (Oklahoma State/Mexico), Karen Fredgaard (Houston/Sweden), Bo Jin (Oklahoma State/China), Pontus Nyholm (Campbell/Sweden), Virunpat Olankitkunchai (Maryland/Thailand), Joseph Pagdin (Florida/England), Ana Pelaez Trivino (South Carolina/Spain), Julian Perico (Arkansas/Spain), Emily Price (Kent State/England), Hugo Townsend (Boise State/Sweden) and Beatrice Wallin (Florida State/Sweden).

Nyholm and Townsend will become the first representative from their respective schools while Perico will be the first representative from Peru.

Hill was selected as the R&A men’s scholar representative while Penny Brown (Stirling) was selected as the female equivalent.

There was no R&A Student Tour Series (STS) for 2020-21 due to Covid so the top 3 men / women from the R&A STS 2019-20 - Order of Merit were short listed for selection.

Hill finished third in the 2019-20 R&A Student Tour Series Order of Merit behind Maynooth’s Alan Fahy  and Stirling’s Laird Shepard. But both Fahy and Shepard graduated last September and were ineligible.

Walsh has had a sensational season with Wake Forest and lies 27th in the World Amateur Golf Ranking after racking up two wins and two runner-up finishes in her last seven starts in the US.

Longtime Arnold Palmer partner Rolex is continuing its more than 50-year relationship through its support of the matches.
