St Anne’s Golf Club

St Anne’s Golf Club

St Anne’s Golf Club is celebrating its centenary in 2021 and as part of the celebrations it will be staging a four-day Centenary Challenge of great links golf from Tuesday 7th to Friday 10th September.

The Centenary Challenge features two days of golf at St Anne’s Golf Club and one day each at Portmarnock Links and County Louth.

Killarney based Tour Operator, Experience Ireland Golf & Travel, will be event managers for the tournament which is hoping welcome many clubs from home and abroad that will also be celebrating their centenaries in 2021.

The event is open to all golfers and there has been interest from Irish and international teams alike since the tournament launch in December 2020.

Captain for 2021, Leo George Devitt (a grandson of first Captain, Marmaduke Devitt), along with President Therese McCormack, Lady Captain Julie Merry, Honourary Secretary Yvonne Keaveney, GM Roger Yates, Communications Manager Suzanne Finnegan, the organising committee and wider membership are looking forward to a big year for the club with the Centenary Challenge at the heart of their celebrations.

Day 1 of the St Anne’s Centenary Challenge will take place at Portmarnock Links on Tuesday 7th September 2021.

Designed by Bernhard Langer, the course has played host to GUI, PGA and Ladies European Tour events over the years and is a superb venue for the opening round.

The second round of the tournament will be at St Anne’s Golf Club, on Wednesday 8th September.

Situated on North Bull Island, the only Biopshere located entirely in a capital city, it is an area of amazing natural beauty where a balanced relationship between people and nature is actively managed and promoted.

Day 3 will be at County Louth Golf Club on Thursday 9th September. The Baltray links has been the long-time annual host to the East of Ireland Amateur Championship and also hosted the 2009 Irish Open won by Shane Lowry who was still an amateur at the time.

The final round of the St Anne’s Centenary Challenge will take teams back to host club, St Anne’s Golf Club, on Friday 10th September where the champions will be crowned.

The first 100 years of St Anne’s Golf Club have been steeped in history – from the early days of Marmaduke Devitt & Tussy Murray to the exploits of professional Paddy Skerritt, the club developments in the 1960s including the new clubhouse and focus on an 18-hole course which became a reality in 1989.

Following the loss to fire of the second clubhouse in 2000, a new, superbly designed replacement, offering panoramic views of Dublin Bay was opened in 2003 along with the redesigned course that members and guests enjoy today.

The St Anne’s clubhouse will host the Final Day Dinner at the conclusion of what promises to be fantastic four day tournament.
