The Island’s Gavin Moynihan is just four shots off the lead at halfway in the Sunshine Tour’s Eye of Africa PGA Championship.

Playing well since last season’s Open de France, the Dubliner followed his opening 69 with a 67 at Eye of Africa Signature Golf Estate to sit in an 11-man logjam for sixth place on eight-under-par.

South Africa’s Thriston Lawrence shot a second successive 66 to lead by two shots from compatriots Estiaan Conradie (65), Bryce Easton (66) and Hennie O'Kennedy (66) on 12-under par.

Scores

Moynihan is well placed to make a move after mixing an eagle and four birdies with three bogeys in Friday’s second round in the €125,000 (R2 million) event.

While he lost his full European Tour playing privileges last season, he hopes to win them back this year and plans to concentrate on the Challenge Tour, where the top 20 will win promotion this term.

He will play around seven European Tour events with one big week in the right event enough to change his fortunes.
