England’s Alan Mew closed with a one-over 72 to complete a wire-to-wire win in the Irish Seniors Amateur Open at Belvoir Park.

Three clear overnight, the 66-year-old from Stoneham Golf Club increased his lead to five by the turn and while Wales' Nigel Evans got within three again when Mew bogeyed the 13th, the leader birdied the next hole and went on to win by three strokes on three-under par.

Mew led by three from Evans and Royal Curragh’s Alan Egan after carding a six-under 65 in the first round, going on to improve on his runner up finish behind Portmarnock's Adrian Morrow at Waterville in 2014.

Defending champion Trevor Foster finished in a tie for third on three over par alongside Bob Florence (England) and the leading home challenger, George Wilson.

The age category prizes went to Nigel Evans (60-64), Greystones' Barry O'Leary (65-69) and Welshman Glynn Rees (70-plus).
