The Island's Paul McBride claimed his maiden win as a professional when he won the Penina Classic II on the Portugal Pro Golf Tour.

The former Walker Cup player and Wake Forest graduate (23), shot rounds of 69 and 67 to tie with Portugal's Tomas Bessa on 10-under before going on to claim the €2,000 top prize after a playoff.

Tullamore's Stuart Grehan finished third, one stroke outside the playoff on nine-under after rounds of 69 and 68 with Longford's John Igoe 21st on one-over after a closing 67.

West Waterford's Gary Hurley, who has played well on the Portugal Pro Golf Tour during the winter, tied for 30th on three-over.
