There was a double for Australia but Ireland’s Lauren Crowley Walsh and David Kitt acquitted themselves well in the Youth Olympic Games in Argentina.

Castlewarden’s Crowley Walsh finished tied for 13th in the Youth Olympic Games with Athenry’s Kitt 25th in the Men’s Individual Stroke Play at Hurlingham Club in Buenos Aires.

Crowley Walsh shot rounds of 75, 73 and 75 to finish on 13-over par as Australia’s Kim Grace claimed the gold by three strokes on one-over par.

There was a playoff for the other medals as Yuka Saso of the Phillippines, Austria’s Emma Spitz and Italy’s Alessia Nobilio tied for second on four-over.

Nobilio birdied the first extra hole to win the silver with Spitz taking the bronze with a par as Saso made bogey.

In the men’s event, Australia’s Karl Vilips closed with a 69 to win the gold medal by two strokes from Akshay Bhatia of the USA on four-under par with Jerry Ji of the Netherlands taking bronze on one-over after joint best of the day 68.

Kitt had his best day of the week, adding a 77 to rounds of 80 and 78 to finish 25th on 25 over.

The Galway man and Crowley Walsh will be in action in the Mixed event with fourballs on Saturday, foursomes on Sunday and individual stroke play on Monday.
