Lord Mayor's Cup countdown begins at Clontarf

There is great expectancy of a spectacular week at Clontarf Golf Club, when it hosts the 75th year of the Lord Mayor's Cup from Sunday, 9 August.

This prestigious Junior Scratch event for golfers with handicaps from 2.5 to 10.4 on the day has been held every year, with the exception of 2020 due to Covid, since its inception in 1951.

It was the brainchild of Jack Belton, the then Lord Mayor of Dublin, 

Entries open next Sunday (2 August), and a big entry is expected for the event, which starts on 9 August.

The top 64 will qualify for the match play stages, with the semi-finals and finals scheduled for Saturday, 16 August.

"This is perhaps one of the most important weeks in the Club's calendar as it attracts golfers from so many clubs from within the province," said club Captain David Hennessy. 

"We are indebted to AIG for the kind sponsorship provided for this year's staging of the Lord Mayor's Cup."
