Sara Byrne on the mend after breaking elbow in fall

Sara Byrne is on the mend and hoping to return to action this spring after suffering a serious elbow injury in January.
The Douglas golfer (24) fractured the radial head in her right elbow in a fall outside her gym in January, but with recovery going well, she could return in time for the LET events in South Africa next month, or wait until the LET returns to Europe for the German Masters in May.
“Unfortunately, in early January, while walking out of the gym, I had a bit of an accident and managed to fracture my radial head in my right elbow and partially tear both my UCL and MCL ligaments,” she wrote on social media.
"It has been a tough few weeks of acceptance and a lot of rehab and physio, but we are certainly on the mend."
She is now in Miami, working to get fit again.
“She's back fit and healthy, and trying to get strong again and ready to go back on tour,” her father, Derek, explained.
She may be eligible for a medical exemption at the start of next season, depending on how many events she misses through injury.
By avoiding surgery, she has a chance to come back sooner than expected, and if she’s not ready for three LET events in South Africa and Mauritius, her return could come in time for the Amundi German Masters in mid-May.
It’s still a major blow for the former Curtis Cup star, who retained her LET card with a strong finish to last season, finishing 69th in the Order of Merit, with the top 70 retaining full status.
