Castlebar wins Mary McKenna Diamond Trophy at Woodenbridge

Castlebar Golf Club (Connacht), winners of the 2025 Mary McKenna Diamond Trophy
Castlebar Golf Club overcame tough weather conditions to defeat Carton House and claim the ninth edition of the All-Ireland Mary McKenna Diamond Trophy Tournament at Woodenbridge.
Inspired by the great Curtis Cup player, the Mary McKenna Diamond Trophy is an All-Ireland competition for senior women golfers and a unique opportunity for clubs from different regions to meet and compete.
The scotch foursomes matchplay format adds a strategic and collaborative element to the competition for lady golfers over 60 with 95 clubs participating this year.
The draw for the two semifinals took place at the opening ceremony.
In bright, fresh weather, Connacht champions Castlebar beat Ulster’s Belvoir Park 3 -2 as Leinster winners Carton House edged out Munster champions Charleville on the 20th hole of a nail-biting encounter.
In the final played in atrocious conditions, all five matches could have gone either way.
As the third-place playoff resulted in a 3-2 win for Belvoir Park over Charleville, Castlebar Golf Club were crowned 2025 All-Ireland champions after a very competitive 3.5-1.5 win over Carton House.
Woodenbridge Golf Club hosted all four teams at the gala dinner, which was attended by Mary McKenna MBE and sponsors Catherine and Don Arnold from Nurse On Call, Woodenbridge Hotel & Lodge and Cassidy Wines, with food provided by Links Catering.
“The members of Woodenbridge Golf Club are very proud to host this prestigious event in the golfing calendar along with the JB Carr Diamond Trophy for men over 60,” remarked Pauline Smith, Lady Captain of Woodenbridge.
“Woodenbridge is a gem of a golf course in south Wicklow since 1884, and has a rich heritage and beauty which our members and many visitors love and enjoy.”
