Naas’ Robert Brazill battled his way into position to make it to the Second Stage of the DP World Tour Qualifying School when he carded a five-under 67 in the third round of his First Stage qualifier at the Northumberland Golf Club.

Despite making two bogeys in his last three holes, Brazill (28) moved up from 29th to tied eighth heading into the final round.

Scores

He’s just inside the top 14 and ties  who will qualify for the Second Stage in Spain next month while Whitehead’s John-Ross Galbraith (31) shot 70 to remain the best placed of the Irish in solo fourth on 12-under.

Galbraith, who plays mainly on the Clutch Tour, is just four strokes behind Scotland’s Craig Howie, who leads by a shot from American Nicholas Infanti on 16 under.

The rest of the Irish need something miraculous on the final day to progress.

Daniel Mulligan (20) is 43rd on one-over after a 69, nine shots outside the qualifying places.

A 76 by Connemara’s Luke O’Neill (24) left him 48th on two over while Mallow’s James Sugrue (28), who was Amateur champion in 2019, lies 50th on three over after a 73.
