Royal Dublin’s Hugh Foley got off to a solid start at the First Stage Section A of the DP World Tour Qualifying School in Bristol.

The Dubliner (28) made three birdies and three bogeys in a level par 70 at The Players Club to share sixth place in the race to make the top 17 and ties who qualify for October’s Second Stage in Spain.

He was four strokes behind England’s Giles Evans, who shot a four under 66 to lead by a shot from compatriot Max Orrin.

Ireland names teams for World Amateur Team Championship

World No. 44 Beth Coulter will lead the Irish challenge when they travel to Singapore for the World Amateur Team Championship in October.

The Tampines Course in Tanah Merah Country Club will host both the Espirito Santo Trophy (1-4 October) and the Eisenhower Trophy (8-11 October).

The Kirkistown Castle golfer will link up with Áine Donegan (Lahinch) once again, after they both competed in Abu Dhabi in October 2023. Their experience will be vital as they are joined by Emma Fleming (Elm Park), who won in Australia earlier this year.

Recent AIG Irish Men’s Amateur Close champion, and soon-to-be Walker Cup star, Stuart Grehan (Co Louth) will be one of the leaders for the men. On the back of his Junior Ryder Cup call-up, John Doyle’s (Fota Island) sensational season continues with his inclusion while Caolan Rafferty (Dundalk) will add his vast experience.
