Law tops Road to Mallorca with Finnish win as McBride and Kennedy slip back

Paul McBride and Max Kennedy slipped back on the final day as David Law climbed into pole position of the Road to Mallorca Rankings after securing his second victory of the season at the Vierumäki Finnish Challenge supported by Finnish Golf Union.
The Scot carded a four under 68 to finish on 17 under par and win by two shots at Vierumäki Resort from England’s Alfie Plant and Swede Jonas Blixt.
McBride closed with a 73 to finish joint 46th on five under while Kennedy made a quadruple bogey nine at the 18th to shoot 75 and finish two strokes further back in joint 58th.
It was a costly finish for the Royal Dublin man who remains 27th in the rankings race for 20 DP World Tour cards.
Law (34) entered the final round one-shot off the lead before carding three birdies and a bogey on his front nine to make the turn two under par for the day.
He made another two birdies coming in, including the par-five 18th, to secure his second victory in just over a month.
“It feels amazing because it was quite a tricky day with players coming from behind,” he said. “Alfie Plant and Jonas Blixt played really well and that put a lot of pressure on me. You had to be aware of what guys were doing around you but had to remain patient at the same time."
The three-time HotelPlanner Tour winner sealed his first victory for over six years at the D+D REAL Czech Challenge last month, and he was delighted to double his tally for the season in Finland and now occupies the HotelPlanner Tour Number One spot.
“I would love to win the Rankings this year,” he said. “My aim at the start of the year was to finish inside the top 20 and get my DP World Tour card back but to win it now is well within my grasp and that is the goal for the rest of the season.
“I’ve just managed to get a bit of confidence, and I’ve really enjoyed my time on the HotelPlanner Tour this year. Last year was a real struggle for me but it’s just nice to be playing well again.”
Law catapults into first place on the Road to Mallorca Rankings on 1,170.02 points, while Frenchman Oihan Guillamoundeguy moves into second following his fourth place finish this week.
Guillamoundeguy finished on 14 under par, one ahead of American Nick Carlson, overnight leader Andoni Etchenique, Portugese Pedro Figueiredo and Spaniard Alvaro Hernandez Cabezuela who shared fifth.
The Road to Mallorca now heads to the Netherlands for The Dutch Futures, taking place from August 21-24, 2025.
