Ronan Mullarney opened with a six-under 63 to keep his bid for a HotelPlanner Tour card on track at the Alps Tour’s Biarritz Cup by C&S Partners.
His bogey-free effort left him tied for third overnight, just a shot bebind France’s former Ryder Cup star Victor Dubuisson and French amateur Rudy Sautron.
They shot 62s to lead from a six-strong group featuring Mullarney, the Netherlands’ Lars Keunen and Jerry Ji, Italy’s Matteo Cristoni, France’s Benjamin Kedochim and French amateur Louka Morin.
The 126th edition of the Biarritz Cup marks a historic milestone, as the prestigious amateur tournament is co-sanctioned with the Alps Tour for the first time.
Held at the iconic Golf de Biarritz Le Phare, it brings together leading amateurs and professionals from across Europe and having been founded in 1899, it is Continental Europe’s oldest amateur event.
The Alps Tour players are chasing places in the top five in the Order of Merit who will earn their cards for the 2026 HotelPlanner Tour.
The top six players (including amateurs), up to ten not otherwise exempt, after this week’s event, will receive exemptions into Stage 1 of the 2025 DP World Tour Qualifying School.
With only a few events remaining before the Alps Tour Grand Final, the pressure is mounting for those chasing a spot among the Tour’s elite.
Mullarney is seventh in the Order of Merit while 20th ranked Robert Moran went into the second round tied for ninth after making an eagle and four birdies in a five-under. 64.
Michael Young shot a three-under 66 while Hugh Foley, who is 20th in the Order of Merit, was joint 33rd after a 67.
