Pádraig Harrington brushed in a 15-footer at the last to share the halfway lead but lamented a missed opportunity to streak clear of the field in the weather-affected US Senior Open in Colorado.

The Dubliner got up and down from a cavernous bunker at the par-five ninth for a second successive 67 that left them tied for the lead on six-under before play was suspended due to dangerous weather at The Broadmoor’s East Course in Colorado Springs.

Harrington felt he had a chance to move clear of the field after getting to four under for the day and seven under for the championship with six holes to play.

“After the start I had today, I could have got some daylight between myself and the field and got out there,” said the 2022 champion, who bogeyed his 13th and 16th holes before that closing birdie. “I just have to go and do it all again the next two days.”

By day’s end, Harrington and Cink, who shot 66, were tied for the lead with Australian Mark Hensby, who shot 67, one shot clear of Thomas Bjorn.

Darren Clarke shot a two-under 68 to share seventh on one-under with Ballymena’s Chris Devlin tied for 25th on two over after a 67.

Devlin improved by eight strokes with the putter after three-putting six times in an opening 75.

“It was good today to bounce back and get everything back where it's supposed to be,” Devlin said.

Leona Maguire also had a great day on the greens in the Dow Championship team event as she single putted the last six alongside teammate Jennifer Kupcho en route to a 10-under 60 in fourballs that gave them the halfway lead in Michigan.

The former college rivals lead by two shots on 13-under from Sarah Schmelzel and Swiss Albane Valenzuela and Belgium’s Manon De Roey and France’s Pauline Roussin-Bouchard at Midland Country Club

Chasing her first win for almost a year, Maguire said: “The game plan didn't change drastically today, so same as we did yesterday, a lot of fairways, a lot of greens.

“It was nice to see some putts go in today, so we’ll try to bring that into tomorrow as best we can.”

It was a tougher day for Conor Purcell in the Italian Open in Tuscany, where a triple bogey eight at the 12th proved fatal as he shot a four-over 74 to miss the weekend by three strokes.

Spain’s Angel Ayora shot 65 to lead by a shot on nine under at Argentario Golf Club

In the Amundi German Masters in Hamburg, Lauren Walsh shot 74 and Anna Foster a 73 to go into the weekend tied for 22nd on two under.

They’re six shots behind Germany’s Helen Briem and Sweden’s Ellinor Sudow while Max Kennedy lies ten shots off the lead at halfway in the Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge in Normandy.

He shot a three-under 69 despite a closing double bogey six to go into the weekend tied for 28th on three-under with Dermot McElroy a shot further back after a nine-birdie 66.

In amateur golf, Co Louth’s Stuart Grehan can qualify for The Open at Royal Portrush if he wins the European Amateur Championship at Vasatorp Golfklubb in Sweden today.

He carded a three-over 75 but goes into the final day just three strokes behind Germany’s Finn Koelle, Denmark’s Kristian Bressum and the Czech Republic’s Filip Jakubcik on level par.
