Major awards for Ballyneety, Enniscrone and Killeen Castle

Ballyneety Golf Course
Ballyneety and Enniscrone were the big Irish winners at the Golf Course Awards, which were held at the Emirates Stadium in London last Friday evening.
Ballyneety, which will host the Junior Ryder Cup in 2027, was voted GB & Ireland Golf Course of the Year for delivering transformative upgrades across the board, including a successful overhaul of all 50 bunkers.
“Perhaps more importantly, Ballyneety are the very definition of a community-led club, with a dedicated team of volunteers ensuring the course and club continue to punch way above their weight,” the jury decided.
“Their constant drive to move the bar, to create, and to inspire is hugely motivational - they are a great role model for all golf clubs looking to provide a wonderful experience on a limited budget, whilst supporting the community that houses it.”
Links gem Enniscrone succeed Co Sligo as “Ireland: Golf Course of the Year.”
The award represents another milestone for the club, which was founded in 1918 has since expanded into a 27-hole offering along the shores of Killala Bay, along with a driving range, short game area, pro shop and a spacious clubhouse.
The Dunes Championship course has matured into one of Ireland's top links courses, with its rugged terrain taking golfers on a memorable journey through the towering golden dunes.

Thousands of visitors from all over the world descend on Enniscrone in peak season, while the club is also well-served by a loyal and committed membership who help foster a warm and welcoming atmosphere for members and visitors alike.
The Dunes Championship Course officially opened in 2001, after six new additional holes designed by Martin Ebert and Donald Steel were added to the 18-hole layout created by Eddie Hackett in the 1970s.
Enniscrone has hosted top amateur events over the years, including both the Irish Men's and Women's Close Championship and the West of Ireland Championship.

'This recognition is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and passion of our entire team — from our staff to the many volunteers who have contributed so much over the years. Their commitment to excellence has helped shape the course into what it is today.'
Enniscrone GC Chairperson Martha McNulty added: 'The club has developed significantly over the last number of years and this award is a testament to the contribution of all involved.'
