Bradley outshines Lowry and Fleetwood to get Ryder Cup “revenge” and $2.1m Skins Game pay out

Xander Schauffele accepted his Skins Game cheque for $0 with good humour.

Keegan Bradley got some revenge for September's Ryder Cup defeat when he outshone Shane Lowry and Tommy Fleetwood and scooped a cool $2.1 million in the Capital One Skins Game in Florida.

Lowry won one skin and $200,000 after stepping in as a late replacement for Justin Thomas, who was forced to pull out due to back surgery.

But while FedEx Cup champion Fleetwood claimed the final skin worth $1.125 million and three skins overall for a $1.7 million payday, it was losing US Ryder Cup skipper Bradley who won the day.

The American claimed 11 skins and $2.1m—including $900,000 for a two at the 13th — as Xander Schauffele failed to win a skin and ended up with nothing at Panther National in Florida.

Lowry had his chances to make even more hay in Palm Beach Gardens, but a couple of missed six-footers, including one at the final hole, proved hugely costly.

"I left a few dollars out there today," joked Lowry. "But it was good fun. I'm happy for Keegan and Tommy's had a tough year, so he needed that."

Lowry enjoyed himself early on, making a 10-footer at the third to prevent Bradley from winning a $225,000 skin.

"I've just spent the last few months breaking Keegan Bradley's heart," joked the Clara man, who holed the putt at Bethpage Black that ensured Europe would deny the Americans the chance to win back the Ryder Cup.

The season might be over for the likes of Lowry and Fleetwood, but there's a lot still at stake for Lauren Walsh, Anna Foster and Sara Byrne in the Ladies European Tour's season-ending Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España.

Walsh lies tenth in the Order of Merit, and she was projected to remain there and so earn a spot in next week's final stage of the LPGA Q-Series after a second round 70 left her tied with her nearest rival, Canada's Anna Huang, at halfway.

Huang needs at least a top-13 finish to overtake Walsh, but they were tied for 24th on three under,  a whopping 12 strokes behind runaway leader Trichat Cheenglab.

The Thai star shot a course record, nine-under 63 at Real Guadalhorce Club de Golf in Malaga to lead by seven shots from Italy's Alessandra Fanali on 15-under par.

French duo Nastasia Nadaud and Celine Herbin were tied for third on seven under, while Shannon Tan and Mimi Rhodes, ranked first and second in the battle for the Order of Merit, were in a six-way tie for fifth.

Elm Park's Anna Foster looks determined to end an impressive rookie season on a high, and although she made one bogey and two double bogeys, she also made seven birdies in a second successive 70 to lead the Irish challenge.

She was tied for 17th on four under while Douglas rookie Sara Byrne was joint 42nd on level par after her second successive 72.

Meanwhile, Kazuma Kobori birdied the final four holes to claim a one-shot clubhouse lead at the BMW Australian PGA Championship.

The New Zealander made nine birdies and a bogey in an eight-under 63 at Royal Queensland to lead on 10-under when play was suspended due to fading light.
