Royal Dublin’s Max Kennedy is one of just three Irish players inside the qualifying mark as he chases his DP World Tour dream at the Second Stage of the Qualifying School in Spain.

The University of Louisville graduate (24) added a four-under 67 to his opening 66 to share eighth place at the halfway mark in the battle to make the top 24 who will progress to next week’s Final Stage from Isla Canela Links.

The Dubliner (24) missed out on his card by a shot at the Final Stage last year before going on to finish 47th in the HotelPlanner Tour rankings.

He lies just four shots behind Ben Warian with two rounds to go in Huelva, where former Walker Cup player Cormac Sharvin (33) was also well placed in 22nd on nine-under after a 68.

Kilkenny’s Mark Power (25) was also on track to make the top 24 who progress at Desert Springs Resort in Almería.

A two-under 70 left the two-time Walker Cup star joint 16th on five under, while Whitehead’s John Ross Galbraith (31) was just outside the qualifying mark on three under after a rollercoaster 73.

Ballymena’s Dermot McElroy (32) was two shots further back after a 71, while a 73 left Hugh Foley (28) 51st on one-over and needing a hot weekend.

Galway’s Ronan Mullarney (30) was forced to withdraw due to illness there, but The Island’s Paul McBride (30) and Castle’s Robert Moran (26) kept their hopes intact at Golf Las Pinaillas in Albacete after solid second rounds.

A 67 left McBride 26th on four-under, a shot outside the top 23 who qualify, while Moran was three shots further back in 43rd after a 70.

Just 24 players qualify at Fontanals Golf Club in Girona, where a two-under 69 left Tom Dowdall (27) just a shot outside the magic number on three under alongside two-time DP World Tour winner Eddie Pepperell.

Castleknock’s David Carey (29), who has also qualified for the Second Stage of the Korn Ferry Tour Q-School in the US, shot 71 to share 54th on one over.

The top 20 in the Road to Mallorca rankings on the second-tier HotelPlanner Tour will receive cards after this week’s Rolex Grand Final, supported by the R&A in Mallorca.

But Galway’s Liam Nolan (25) will be looking to the Final Stage of Q-School for his card after a three-over 75 left him 43rd in the 45-man field at Club de Golf Alcanada on five over and projected to fall two places to 45th in the final rankings.

The Netherlands’ Lars van Meijel, Scotland’s Daniel Young and Euan Walker, Italy’s Stefano Mazzoli and France’s Félix Mory share the halfway lead on eight-under.

Van Meijel and Young posted four under par rounds of 68 to set the clubhouse target before Mazzoli, Mory, and Walker joined them at the top.

The Grand Final is being played concurrently with the G4D Tour Series Finale, where Brendan Lawlor goes into the final round tied for second, seven strokes behind leader Kipp Popert.

Mark Clougherty lies second in the nett, four shots behind South Africa’s Daniel Slabbert.
