The Irish Women’s team came up just short of gold in the Flight A Final at the European Senior Ladies' Team Championship today.

Deirdre Walsh’s (Milltown) brilliant 4&2 win over Soledad Fernandez de Araoz wasn’t enough as Spain took control in three of the other matches at Parador El Saler Golf, Spain.

Suzanne Corcoran (Portumna) and Gertie McMullen (The Island) fell to a narrow two holes defeat in the opener, while Tracy Eakin (Dooks) managed to tie her match.

However, European champion Alison Taylor (Milltown) lost 4&2 and Laura Webb’s (Royal Portrush) 3&2 loss signalled the end for a brave Irish challenge.

The Irish Men bounced back from yesterday’s disappointing defeat to England to secure bronze in their third-placed play-off thanks to a convincing 4-1 win over Italy at Royal Golf Club Mariánské Lázně in Czech Republic.

The team of Colin Cunningham (Carton House) and Noel Crawford (Mourne) claimed a 4&3 win over Gianluca Bolla and Massimo Franco.

Jody Fanagan (Milltown) beat Franz Pfoestl 4&3 with European champion Eddie McCormack (Galway Bay) defeating Michele Bosco 3&2. Alan Condren (Greystones) and Joe Lyons (Galway) both halved their matches.
